Who Are We?
The Connect Global Youth Association is an organization that aims to foster the leadership potential of secondary school students with innovative initiatives relating to global social, political, and economic issues. Connect Model United Nations, an annual 3-day conference, is the flagship event of CGYA. Each year we select a team of amazing Post-Secondary and exceptional High School students to organize the ConnectMUN conference. The CGYA supports the development of the Secretariat team as they gain valuable lessons and skills putting together a major conference.
What We Stand For
We focus on committee quality by keep sizes small and balanced with the right mix of skills so that every delegate is engaged and challenged. We also train our staff to be mentors who guide delegates before and during the conference. Focusing on less topics allows delegates to better understand the intricacies of topics considered and really address the issues.
Education and teaching are at the heart of our conference. ConnectMUN sees itself as an extension of school. Delegations have a sponsor teacher from a school to help us provide the best experience to delegates. We check in with teachers through the conference, gathering their feedback, and respond as necessary.
Safety is our first concern. Without a safe environment there is no learning. ConnectMUN requires sponsor teacher approval to register delegates and has a chaperone for delegates attending the conference. We have a strict code of conduct and anyone in breach of the code will have the sponsor teacher and parent/guardian contacted immediately and likely sent home. As organizers we feel the responsibility for the mental and physical well being of everyone involved with the conference. As such we take security and safety seriously. We have regular role call, curfew with room checks, security guards at night, and tireless work to make sure everyone is safe.
